The exhaust system controls emissions, back-pressure, noise and (on diesels) particulate output across every Hyundai sold in South Africa — from the naturally aspirated Kappa 1.0 and 1.2 in the i10, through the Gamma, Nu and Theta II petrols, to the turbocharged D4HB 2.2 and D4CB 2.5 CRDi diesels that pull H1 panel vans and Santa Fe family wagons around the country. Exhaust components carry some of the highest dealer prices on the vehicle and some of the biggest savings when bought used. SA fuel quality, dust loading on CRDi DPF systems, and high-altitude operation all contribute to faster-than-expected exhaust wear, particularly on diesel models that spend their lives in short stop-start urban duty cycles.
