The CRDi DPF on Tucson LM and TL, ix35 LM, Santa Fe DM and H1 TQ is the single highest-ticket exhaust item on these cars — new dealer DPFs sit north of R12 000, and our cleaned-and-tested used units are a fraction. Theta II 2.0 and 2.4 upstream oxygen sensors are a common reason for a dashboard check-engine light and a 10-15 per cent fuel consumption increase. The H100 D4CB EGR valve sticks open on high-mileage examples, killing low-end response. Sonata NF and YF catalytic converter substrate breaks down internally after 200 000 km, producing rattles and a P0420 fault. Santa Fe DM and TM downstream exhaust gas temperature sensors fail with age and trigger limp mode.
