CRDi Variable-Vane Turbos
Garrett’s variable nozzle turbine (VNT) is fitted to every modern Hyundai CRDi. The GTB1749V on the D4HB 2.2 is the highest-volume turbo we sell — Santa Fe DM customers know the symptoms well (blue smoke, boost loss above 3,000 rpm). The GT1749V on the D4CB 2.5 powers every H100 bakkie and H1 panel van and accumulates massive commercial mileage before failing.

T-GDI & Theta II 2.0T
BorgWarner’s KP35 small-frame turbo is fitted to every 1.6 T-GDI Gamma (G4FJ) — Tucson, Veloster, i30 N-Line and Elantra Sport all run it. The K03 medium-frame BorgWarner powers the 2.0T Theta II (G4KH) in Sonata Turbo and the hot Veloster N. Both are dry-bearing units sensitive to oil-change intervals.

Older CRDi & Small Diesel
Mitsubishi’s TD04 turbo powered the older D4EA 2.0 CRDi found in Tucson JM and Santa Fe SM — a robust wastegate design that often outlasts the engine. IHI's RHF3 is fitted to the D4FB 1.6 CRDi (i30, Tucson 1.6 CRDi) — smaller and faster- spooling than the Garrett alternatives.

When the turbo took the engine with it
A turbo failure that fired shrapnel down the intake manifold or sent metal through the exhaust valves means a turbo swap on its own won’t fix the problem. Order a head + turbo pair so the new turbo isn’t bolted to a head with bent exhaust valves. If the damage went deeper still — bottom-end knock, low oil pressure — cost a complete Hyundai engine assembly instead. And if the same overheating event that killed the turbo also cooked the gearbox cooler lines (common on Santa Fe DM), our transmission stock covers the A6MF1 and A8LF1 autos used across the CRDi range.
